2025 Mazda CX-50: Specs, Interior & Performance Highlights

Damin Binham March 6, 2025

Mazda has long been known for making vehicles that provide a fun driving experience, and the 2025 CX-50 does just that in the SUV category. With sharp handling, quick steering, and a well-tuned chassis, this compact crossover is among the most fun to drive in its class. All-wheel drive is standard, and there are two powertrains available: a 187-hp naturally aspirated four-cylinder, or a more eager 256-hp turbocharged version. The CX-50 boasts an upscale cabin that rivals many luxury brands and completes its rugged character by adding an extra layer of refinement to its interior.

Pricing and Recommended Trim

2025 Mazda CX-50 pricing starts at $31,720 and hits $44,720, depending on trim and options chosen.

  • Select – $31,720
  • Preferred – $33,070
  • Premium – $35,420
  • Premium Plus – $38,920
  • Turbo Meridian Edition – $42,670
  • Turbo Premium – $42,720
  • Turbo Premium Plus – $44,720

The recommended trim for a balance of performance and value is the Turbo Meridian Edition. This model comes with the 256-hp turbo-four engine, a higher 3,500-pound towing capacity, a panoramic sunroof, and leather upholstery with front heated seats, making it a nicely balanced pick.

Engine and Performance Options

The CX-50 features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two variants:

  • Base Engine: 187 hp, 186 lb-ft torque
  • Turbocharged Engine: 256 hp, 320 lb-ft of torque (with premium fuel)

Its six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard, providing a comfortable yet dynamic driving experience. The CX-50 is tuned to feel sporty behind the wheel and is one of the more engaging compact crossovers to drive. The turbocharged model clocked a 0-60 mph time of 6.4 seconds in testing, which is brisk for an SUV of this size.

Towing Capacity

  • Standard engine: 2,000 lbs
  • Turbocharged engine: 3,500 lbs

The turbocharged variant adds the most robust powertrain available, improving towing ability and positioning itself as an option for adventure seekers who want to haul gear or small trailers.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel economy for the 2025 Mazda CX-50 is respectable:

  • Base Engine: 24 MPG city / 30 MPG highway
  • Turbocharged Engine: 23 MPG city / 29 MPG highway

In real-world testing, the turbocharged model delivered 29 MPG on the highway, showing that performance doesn’t necessarily come at a huge cost to efficiency.

Interior and Cargo Space

Inside, the CX-50 boasts a contemporary and chic cabin outfitted with premium materials and an ergonomic design that caters to the user experience. It seats five, but rear-seat headroom is a little more cramped than that of some competitors like the CX-5. Standard interior features include:

  • Tilt and telescoping steering wheel
  • Push-button start
  • Half-digital gauge display

Cargo space stands at 31 cubic feet behind the second row and 56 cubic feet with the seats folded down.

Technology and Connectivity

The CX-50 comes with a 10.3-inch infotainment display controlled through a center console dial from Mazda. Standard tech features are as follows:

  • Wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 8-speaker audio system
  • Wireless charging (except base trim)

Topping models get a 12-speaker Bose sound system and SiriusXM satellite radio.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2025 CX-50 comes standard with a robust array of safety features, including:

  • Automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

An optional 360-degree camera system is also available.

Warranty and Service Coverage

Mazda’s competitive coverage is still eclipsed in warranty length by brands like Kia and Hyundai:

  • Basic warranty: 3 years / 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty: 5 years / 60,000 miles

No free scheduled maintenance is included.
