Ferrari’s Bold Project 677: Hamilton’s First Season Unveiled

As Lewis Hamilton prepares to don Ferrari red for the first time in his illustrious career, the Scuderia is set to introduce significant changes to its F1 identity. The 2025 season will not only mark the debut of Hamilton at Ferrari but also showcase the much-anticipated Project 677 — a car designed with innovation and bold aesthetics at its core.

Reports suggest Ferrari will unveil a “more intense” shade of red for their livery, striking a balance between tradition and modernity. While it won’t be as radical as the burgundy used during their 1,000th Grand Prix at Mugello in 2020, the new design aims to exude confidence and contemporary appeal. Enhanced by creative freedom from recent FIA weight regulations, the Scuderia’s livery will debut at F1’s inaugural season-launch event in London on February 18.

Hamilton, known for his progressive ideals and focus on impactful change, has reiterated his respect for Ferrari’s iconic red. While he played a pivotal role in Mercedes’ switch to a black livery in 2020, he emphasized his intent to work with Ferrari’s existing philanthropic endeavors rather than advocating for a dramatic aesthetic shift. Collaborations with Mission 44 and other charitable initiatives are expected to align with Hamilton’s broader goals off-track.

Beyond the visual revamp, Project 677 incorporates critical technical changes to optimize performance for both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The relocation of the cockpit further back, reminiscent of Hamilton’s requests at Mercedes, signals Ferrari’s commitment to addressing driver comfort and performance feedback. A revised wheelbase, pullrod rear suspension, and shorter gearbox aim to enhance weight distribution and tire management — areas Ferrari excelled in during the 2024 season.

Hamilton’s transition has also brought former Mercedes engineer Loic Serra into Ferrari’s fold. Serra, instrumental in designing the Project 677, has reportedly addressed past challenges such as the zero-pod concept that hindered Hamilton’s previous campaigns. This collaborative synergy could be key in elevating Ferrari’s competitiveness.

Hamilton is set to gain valuable track time with Ferrari through TPC (Testing of Previous Car) sessions, starting with a wake-up test at Fiorano and extending to Barcelona. These sessions will provide Hamilton with critical insights into Ferrari’s handling characteristics and fine-tune the team’s strategies ahead of the 2025 season.

With a striking livery, driver-centric innovations, and a renewed focus on performance, Ferrari’s Project 677 embodies a fresh chapter for the Scuderia. As Hamilton embarks on this historic journey, the F1 world watches with anticipation to see how his unparalleled talent and Ferrari’s relentless drive for success will shape the future of the sport.
