Ferrari has unveiled a major overhaul of their F1 technical team in anticipation of Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 arrival, including the appointment of former Mercedes chief Loic Serra as Technical Director of Chassis.
In May, Ferrari confirmed Serra’s hiring alongside Jerome d’Ambrosio. Initially slated as the head of chassis performance engineering, Serra was set to report to Enrico Cardile. However, with Cardile’s departure to Aston Martin, Serra’s role has been elevated to Technical Director of Chassis.
This shake-up marks a significant shift at Ferrari as they gear up for Hamilton’s transition from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025, where he will join Charles Leclerc.
Ferrari announced on Thursday morning: “Scuderia Ferrari HP is pleased to appoint Loic Serra as Technical Director of Chassis. Serra, born in 1972, will officially join the team on October 1 and will report directly to Team Principal Fred Vasseur.”
“Serra will oversee several key departments, including Chassis Project Engineering led by Fabio Montecchi, Vehicle Performance under Marco Adurno, Aerodynamics headed by Diego Tondi, Track Engineering managed by Matteo Togninalli, and Chassis Operations, which will be directed by Diego Ioverno, who will also retain his role as Sporting Director.
Enrico Gualtieri will continue as Technical Director Power Unit, reporting directly to Fred Vasseur.
Ferrari had been strongly linked with Adrian Newey following Red Bull’s announcement that he would leave the team in early 2025. However, the 65-year-old is now expected to join Aston Martin instead.”
