Sergio Perez is set to appear before the stewards ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying session, following a controversial incident during the third practice session.
The Red Bull driver is under scrutiny for allegedly obstructing Carlos Sainz on track, which led to a near-collision between the two drivers. The incident occurred as Perez was navigating Turn 15 while Sainz was on a flying lap.
Earlier in the day, both Perez and Sainz had already been summoned by the stewards for a separate matter from the second practice session. At that time, Sainz received a warning for his actions. However, the situation in the third practice saw Perez on the receiving end of scrutiny, with the Red Bull driver reportedly failing to clear the racing line effectively.
As Sainz approached, he was forced to make a sudden maneuver to avoid contact, locking up and veering off the racing line. Perez, in response, attempted to give way by taking a wider line, but the clash of timing between the two drivers led to a dramatic moment on track.
The stewards will review the incident to determine if any further action is warranted before the crucial qualifying session begins.
