Alonso: Ferrari Should Have Dominated the Singapore GP

The two-time champion Fernando Alonso, who is racing this season for Aston Martin, has shared his outlook on the Singapore Grand Prix, stating that it was a stage which Ferrari had every opportunity to dazzle. He had asserted with confidence that his ex-team would be at the front of the race.

Nevertheless, Ferrari was hit with the unluckiest of circumstances. Carlos Sainz was unable to advance after he crashed at Q3, while Charles Leclerc took a long soak in the car while his best qualifying time was disqualified owing to track limits. Team principal Frederic Vasseur put it nicely: “I don’t want to blame anything or anyone, but when you’re in the middle of the grid, it is quite impossible to gain places.” His remarks echoed the difficulties the team endured during the course of the weekend.

Remembering the race, the 43-year-old fresh off racing in the top class, yet again, remarked, “To be honest, I felt we were going to struggle for P15, so P8 is a pretty good achievement, especially with a Ferrari only 2 seconds up the road. Scoring points is a good feeling, but we still have to find more pace.”

Speaking of Ferrari, he didn’t spare his words. “The Ferraris probably should have won this race. They were the fastest car this weekend,” he expressed his opinion of his old team turning back
