Cadillac is revving up for its big Formula 1 debut in 2026, and the hunt for drivers is officially on. One name generating serious buzz? Mick Schumacher.
Amidst the usual flurry of deals and discussions at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, Cadillac bosses were busy chatting with potential drivers – and Mick was definitely part of those conversations. The driver market is heating up fast, with names like Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, and Zhou Guanyu all being whispered about.
Cadillac Boss Spills the Tea on Mick
Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon opened up to Sky Germany, making it clear they rate the young German driver:
“Mick is great. Honestly, a really nice guy, I like him a lot,” Lowdon shared. “Yeah, he’s still young, but crucially, he has that F1 experience. Okay, it’s been a little while, but he’s stayed sharp – testing, keeping up, and showing real passion for our project. We love that. Seriously, we’re impressed.”
Lowdon also hinted things are about to get lively in the driver market:
“There are a lot of talented drivers out there right now – seasoned pros and hungry young guns coming up from Formula 2. I reckon we’ll see some serious movement soon.”
Tick Tock for Cadillac!
With the summer break looming, the pressure is on across the paddock to lock down contracts. Cadillac, still without any confirmed drivers for 2026, knows they need to make moves, and fast. They’re not alone – Alpine and Red Bull also have question marks over their future line-ups, making the competition for top talent even fiercer.
If they fancy Bottas (who Alpine is also chasing), they might need to move quickly. Or, they could take a punt on rising stars like Yuki Tsunoda, depending on how the rest of 2024 shakes out.
As for Mick? He might not be the absolute favourite yet, but he’s absolutely a genuine contender. His F1 past, his recent strong form in endurance racing, and that instantly recognizable name – especially appealing in both Europe and the crucial US market for an American team like Cadillac – could be major assets for their grand entrance.
The 2026 grid is wide open! As the first driver dominoes start to fall, we could see some surprising partnerships. For now, the key takeaway is this: Mick Schumacher is firmly in the conversation for a Cadillac seat. That alone is a big step towards a possible full-time F1 comeback. Let the silly season begin!
