Briatore, Former Renault boss in Formula 1, talks about Lewis Hamilton’ joining Scuderia Ferrari next season.
Hamilton, who now is on the same boat with Michael Schumacher, winning 7th F1 titles, joined the Maranello to fight for the eight.
Briatore, now serving as an executive advisor for Alpine, weighed in on the decision, expressing both curiosity and skepticism.
“It will be strange to see Lewis in the Ferrari,” Briatore remarked in an interview with sport.de. “Of course, I respect these decisions, but I’m not sure it makes sense. Ferrari already had two excellent drivers in Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.”
The former Renault team boss went on to question the logic behind breaking up a pairing that had been so competitive.
“I don’t understand why they split up this great partnership,” he added. “If I were in charge at Ferrari, I wouldn’t have signed Lewis. That said, it’s good for Formula 1 if he’s with Ferrari. What’s good for the sport is good for me too. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs in red.”
Sainz, alongside Leclerc, had come heartbreakingly close to clinching the constructors’ championship in 2024. Despite their success, Ferrari opted for the experienced Hamilton, a move that has sparked mixed reactions across the paddock.
Briatore acknowledged the commercial appeal of the signing, noting it could boost TV ratings and viewership for the sport. Still, he left the final judgment to time, saying, “Let’s wait and see how things unfold. Time will tell how well Lewis adapts to life at Ferrari.”
For now, fans and pundits alike are eagerly anticipating Hamilton’s first race in red and the fresh dynamics his arrival will bring to Ferrari’s championship ambitions.
