In 2001, Honda introduced the EP3, the third generation of the Civic Type R, as a 3-door hatchback to the UK market. Manufactured in Swindon, England, it came with a 2.0L K20A2 i-VTEC engine, producing 200 PS (197 hp) and paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. While the European model lacked some features like a helical LSD and red Recaro seats, a JDM version was released with the enhanced K20A engine (215 PS) and other track-oriented features.
Facelift (2003-2005) In 2003, the EP3 was updated with new features such as quicker steering, revised suspension, and projector headlamps. The facelifted model aimed to improve handling and performance, addressing feedback like understeer and low-end torque issues.
