Although the Sauber team management is still assessing Mick Schumacher as a viable option, Mattia Binotto, recently indicated that the team is still considering signing him. This follows reports claiming that Valtteri Bottas was all but confirmed for the seat leaving little chances for Schumacher.
Ever since Haas parted ways with him, any prospect of Schumacher’s revival has been quickly dashed down. Several teams went for first-time racers instead, such as Alpine’s losing bid to him for Pierre Gasly’s position that was awarded to junior Jack Doohan. Williams too failed to register Schumacher and instead picked a different candidate, Franco Colapinto, which made things worse.
The strategy director of Williams, James Vowles was candid when he said that Schumacher is “not special but only good.” It produces a highlight on the expectations that F1 drivers must engrave on each one of them as they operate even regardless of what teams they perform in. Unlike the emotional depreciating disadvantage found in talents like Sebastian Vettel or Charles Leclerc, whose abilities were quite insistent in spite of the undue disadvantage, Schumacher has not quite made that impression.
As Sauber is looking in the direction of the next season, Valtteri Bottas makes a lot of sense as he is quite experienced and has handled competitive situations before. Moreover, there is a very skilled and obviously talented young driver Gabriela Bortoleto, who is now the leader of the Formula 2 ranking.
The German sporting scene is changing and figures like Nico Hülkenberg are already active thus, it seems that Schumacher’s chances of getting back into the fold of F1 are remote. Lacing support and an impressive record, he will most probably have to look for other avenues outside this particular form of racing to pursue his motorsport aspirations.
